| please help me.
-x/3 - 5 =2x (-x/3 being -x over 3..)
my teacher said to multiply each by 3 to rid the fraction.
-x - 15 = 6x
solve for x.
wouldn't you add x to 6
and get -15 = 7x?
but that gives you some crazy decimal..
unless there's no solution.
idk.. it's too early for matematica. >< _________________ E Pluribus Unum

| Here:
-x/3 - 5 = 2x 3(-x/3) - 5 = 3(2x) DO NOT TOUCH THE 5! It is clean! You should then have -x - 5 = 6x -5 = 7x -5/7 = 7x/7 (-) .7142857 [or (-)5/7] = x
I hope that helped. _________________

| that doesn't work when you plug it in for x, though.. does it?
and my I did it like that before,
my teacher said you have to multiply everything by 3.
idk.. maybe I'll just ask my brother when I see him tomorrow. _________________ E Pluribus Unum

| You only have to mutiply -x/3 and 2x by three. I swear. We did this last year in geometry and the year before that in Algebra 1. _________________

| | You're on the right path. The answer would be -15/7. ( or -2.143 as a decimal) And you DO actually have to multiply the 5 by 3 too. Whatever you do to one term, you have to do to the rest. I checked it, when you plug -15/7 in it works. |

I think I just failed a test.
My teacher has to grade the essay questions, but I got one wrong because it's all "fill in the blank" and it's like, yaddayaddayadda a ___ test.
and I said line.
and the "correct answer" is vertical line.

I'm mad at myself now.
